Happy International Translation Day 2018

Celebrating International Translation Day 2018

On May 24, 2017, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution (Resolution 71/288, https://undocs.org/en/A/RES/71/288) declaring September 30 to be International Translation Day.

“International Translation Day is meant as an opportunity to pay tribute to the work of language professionals, which plays an important role in bringing nations together, facilitating dialogue, understanding and cooperation, contributing to development and strengthening world peace and security.

Transposition of a literary or scientific work, including technical work, from one language into another language, professional translation, including translation proper, interpretation and terminology, is indispensable to preserving clarity, a positive climate and productiveness in international public discourse and interpersonal communication.” (http://www.un.org/en/events/translationday/)

International Translation Day coincides with the feast day of St. Jerome, a Christian scholar and priest who was the first person to translate the Bible into Latin, making it accessible for the first time to a far wider audience. St. Jerome is the patron saint of translators.

Please join us and language service professionals around the globe in celebration of the important role of translation and interpretation in an increasingly connected and globalized world. On this day we pay tribute to the work of translators and interpreters who have dedicated their work to breaking down language barriers and allowing greater understanding of various subject matters across the globe. The work of translators is gaining attention due to growing opportunities for international travel and globalization of trade markets.

For over 35 years, ASIST Translation Services has enjoyed tremendous success and growth thanks in part to the network of amazing professionals that we are proud to call colleagues. We can’t wait to see what the future holds and hope that you will join us in celebration of the translators, interpreters and linguists who have brought us to where we are today. We couldn’t have done it without you!
